Report cruelty

We can make cruelty to animals a thing of the past…..

Animal cruelty is not only wrong—it is against the law in this country! Animal abuse can also be part of a pattern of other violent acts within families and society. Abuse of any kind should be reported to the appropriate authorities immediately.
Do you think an animal in your neighbourhood is the victim of cruelty?
Report the possible abuse by completing the online form below.

Read this carefully before lodging a complaint with AWS:
We are empowered
by the magistrates of Port Elizabeth to enforce the Animal Protection Act to deal with cruelty to animals. i.e. Abandoned animals (not strays). Animals kept on too short chains or unnecessarily tied up or kept in areas too small for their size.  Animals not given food, water, shelter or medical treatment. Animals being physically abused or kept in dirty or parasitic conditions.

We are not empowered to enforce the Municipal Bylaws, i.e. dogs in the street attacking people or causing a nuisance or ripping up garbage bags, too many dogs on a property, unspayed bitches, stray dogs. Barking dogs are a noise complaint and are dealt with by NMMM or the police.   For any of these issues, contact the Municipal Dog division on (041) 506-5232.

For dead bodies, please contact the Municipal Waste Dept on (041) 373-7867.
